What is Krav Maga?

Krav Maga - Israeli Martial Art Krav Maga is the official defensive tactics system of the Israeli Defense Force. Their soldiers are men and women aged 18 to 51, so their fighting system focuses on techniques that are:

Based on instinctive movements, so they are easy to learn and easy to remember under stress

Not dependent on size, strength, or special physical ability, so Krav Maga techniques can be used effectively by men and women of all ages.

Need to get in shape.

This 60 year old body is in desparate need of a tune up. The ambitious notion of doing back to back workouts is just that: an "ambitious notion". Nevertheless there is something very addicting about the Krav training. I think overtime as my body becomes more accustomed to the strains and pains of the workouts and as I, hopefully, develop more flexibility, I can attend class with more frequency. I'm on my third class and enjoying the interaction with my classmates.

The Key is...Intensity!

OneWorldKravMaga-2/1/2010 from Chris Torio on Vimeo.

Intensity plays a huge role in Krav Maga. As many of you move up in Krav Maga, you may have noticed that the intensity in advanced classes are a lot different from a level 1 class. There are a couple reasons for this:

1. You have now learned the basic of Krav Maga and should

Inside Defense with counter shown by Imi

Hey folks,

Here is Imi demonstrating the inside defense with a counter. He was at my instructor's (Alan Feldman) studio long time ago and you can see me on the side. I just received my blue belt after Imi tested us. I have to say that was one of the most memorable weekends in my Krav Maga career. I… Continue

Maintain your level of aptitude in all levels.

There a several keys to insuring that you are getting the most out of training. I have seen this time after time where students start to become complacent in their training. They pass their yellow belt test or orange belt test and move on in their level training. The most important key is to continue y… Continue

I like to get hit...not!

Krav Maga. Some people have different opinions on the effectiveness of Krav Maga. I have heard some say that it's not realistic. I have heard others say it's not the best martial art out there (BTW, KRAV MAGA IS NOT A MARTIAL ART. IT IS A FIGHTING ART). Then others will say that there art is better than Krav Maga or whatever art it is. I'm not here to tell you what the best self-defense program is or sell Krav Maga. I just want to discuss a couple of good points that I have learned from Krav Mag… Continue

Belt Testing

Any belt test is not an easy task. You go through 2-3 hours of nonstop work. The way most belt tests occur is by going through all the techniques and repeating each technique 4-5 times so that the instructor can evaluate your performance. Most people think you need to be perfect when doing your techniques at a belt test. In a perfect world, you… Continue

Congrats!!

When you get a chance, congratulate all those who passed their yellow belt tests. It took time and dedication to get to where they are now. Passing the yellow belt test should be a door opening for all of you. It is your time to learn more advanced techniques and also your time to pass the information you've learned to those that are trying to get to where you are today. With this accomplishment now come responsibilities to the newer people and especially for yourself.
